Meeting with Teachers How to Take Advantage of the Opportunity
Do you have one class that you dread going to everyday? Do you feel completely lost and confused when it comes to the material? Never fear! Meeting with your teacher may be the solution. If you make the most of the meeting and it goes successfully, you will feel a lot more confident in class. Donââ¬â¢t be afraid The first step is having the courage to set up a meeting. Donââ¬â¢t be afraid of your teacher. Donââ¬â¢t worry that they will judge you for understanding so little. They will be happy that you are taking the time to meet with them. It shows that you care about your performance in the class. It makes you seem thorough and responsible. This display of responsibility may even boost your grade a little bit. Go over the material beforehand Donââ¬â¢t show up to the meeting unprepared. You donââ¬â¢t want to waste any time because you probably wonââ¬â¢t have very much of it. Donââ¬â¢t ask about general, broad topics because then your teacher might not actually give you the help that you need. Go through notes and circle the specific topics that were confusing to you. Try to formulate specific questions that you can ask. Make a written list of these questions so you donââ¬â¢t forget any of them. Take notes During the meeting, go through each question with your teacher, crossing them off as they are answered. Donââ¬â¢t count on your memory alone. Take notes on the answer to each question. They will come in handy when you are studying for a test. Although you may understand a certain concept in the moment right after your teacher explained it, you might forget after a few weeks go by, especially if you had a hard time understanding it in the first place. Donââ¬â¢t give up I know that itââ¬â¢s tempting, but if you donââ¬â¢t understand something, donââ¬â¢t nod and smile as if you do. Donââ¬â¢t give up! Tell your teacher that you donââ¬â¢t understand. They are there to help you. The meeting is a waste of time if you leave without actually getting help. Say thank you Saying thank you is important, whether it boosts your grade or not. Tell your teacher how grateful you are. Think how lost you would be without their extra help. You want to maintain a good relationship with them, just in case you need help again.

The most basic layout principle is the work triangle. The work triangle is the line drawn from each of the three primary work stations in the kitchen ââ¬â the food storage, cooktop, and sink. By drawing these lines, you can see the distance youââ¬â¢ll walk to move to and from each area. The sum of the ideal triangle is supposed to be between 15 and 22 feet, putting each of the three appliances within two or three steps of one another. The three primary kitchen work stations which create the work triangle are: 1. Food storage - Your refrigerator and pantry are the major items here. Cabinetry like lazy Susan or swing-out pantry units adds function and convenience. Options like wine racks, spice racks, and roll-out trays help to organize your groceries. 2. The preparation/cooking station ââ¬â Your range, oven, microwave, and smaller appliances are found in this area. Counter space is important in this section. Conserve space by moving appliances off the counter with appliance garage cabinets and space-saving ideas like towel rods and pot lid racks. 3. Behind Women s Prostitution Prostitution - 1561 Words
Behind Womenââ¬â¢s Prostitution Prostitution, as many of you may know is an exchange of sex for payment. It should be illegal everywhere in the world because of the extreme lifestyle women are forced to live and because of the increase in crime rates. There are three different types of prostitution. The first and most known- street prostitution, the second being escort prostitution and last but not least-sex-trafficking. Prostitution in general is often looked at as shameful in society, however for many women/ young females around the world, this decision was not made by them. Prostitutes themselves are especially vulnerable to robberies and assault. Most prostitutes are also drug addicts, making it hard for them to leave prostitution and in some cases, the pimp is the one who introduces them to drugs, causing them to become addicted in order for them to manipulate the prostitute. Another way a pimp might manipulate someone into becoming a prostitute is by acting like a friend or boyfriend to her and shows her he cares about her, but soon she is unfortunately forced to work for him. On the other hand, some prostitutes may use drugs just to cope with their stress and everything that they have to go through. However, used needles are often found on streets along with used condoms, creating an even more unpleasant environment to live/ be in. International Human resource Management The Traditional Theories
Question: Describe about the International Human resource Management for The Traditional Theories. Answer: The traditional theories of Human resource Management suggest that HRM is a support function and not a business function because it does not generate revenue. However, in recent times the multinational organizations have realized the importance and strategic nature of Human Resource Management function. It is important that the strategies and policies around human resource management function should be linked with the overall business level strategy of organizations. In recent times, the large and multinational organizations have been practicing the HRM function in an integrated manner. In the current business environment, organizations have started to focus on the integration of HRM with Information Technology. Many functions carried out by the HR department have now been made electronic and people are becoming more comfortable to use them in interacting with the business. Technology advancements have allowed the jobs that HR has to perform to become more streamlined. The role of HR M in multinational organization is definitely working in conjunction with the company's strategy. The objective of this essay is to analyze and discuss the importance and challenges of integrating the International HRM function and the organizational strategy for the large and multinational organizations (Nankervis, 2011). The initial research suggests that the importance of integrating HR strategies is the overall improvement in the productivity level of employees. The large and multinational organizations have realized that the productivity, innovation and commitment level of employees are the drivers of competitive advantage. Therefore, multinational organizations want to have high level of integration between HR strategies and business level strategies so that organizations can have overall productivity improvement. The HRM function could be complicated in the multinational organizations because the HR executives of multinational firms would have to manage to employees from different cultural and backgrounds. For example, the HR policies of Microsoft cover the employees across multiple countries. The HR managers have to modify the HR strategies for different regions. Therefore, it is important that the HR strategies should derive from the business level strategies of organizations. At a high level, the multinational organizations can have the business level strategy of cost leadership of differentiation. The HR managers of multinational organizations have to manage the cross functional teams. Daft (2013) described cross-functional teams as being comprised of employees of similar rank. These employees often come from different functions of the company. One of the primary concerns when working with cross-functional teams is finding a balance and common ground to build off of between the different concerns and perspectives from each function. The most productive way to address the challenge of leading and working with cross-functional teams is to continue to reiterate that the overall goal is everyone's responsibility and not just a particular part of the team. Also, it is important to validate the concerns and input of each functioning part of the team in an effort to not stop growth and team cohesion. The work of HR managers is particularly difficult in multinational organizations because HR managers also have to manage the team in virtual environment. Virtual teams are not necessarily more difficult to manage but they are different than managing a team that is able to meet at a specific time and physical location. The distinctions of managing these teams can be learned and implemented successfully (Lepsinger DeRosa, 2015). The tools to enable this success are multiplying as it becomes easier to share documents in the cloud, post videos online, and set up virtual workspace s. According to (Farnham 2010 pp3), to be effective in the competitive business world today HR professionals need to have full knowledge of the external contexts (STEEPLE) in which their company operates and the driving force behind the changes facing it. The HR professionals can have the complete knowledge of external factors only when they have a deep understanding of the overall business strategy of organization. The level of competition in an industry has an influence on a companys ability to find qualified workers because in most cases the big companies because of their branding power or reputation need not advertise their vacancies because the candidates seeks them out, therefore the HR has to develop programs and incentives to attract new employees as well s retain key employees. For example, Deloitte an international consultancy firm assist organizations strengthen their strategic objectives by placing HR functions at the forefront of the business strategies. Deloitte has a ten- step approach divided into three categories; namely, defining human capital value; alignment of HR products and services; and value delivery (Deloitte, 2009). One of the greatest challenges of operationalizing strategy across various business functions is creating and sustaining the synergy that is needed to have an organization that function efficiently. As companies realign the structure of the organization to be more market-oriented and responsive to changing customer requirements and competitive conditions, there is a greater need to share information across functional groups and organizational boundaries (Hunt Speh. 2007).Challenges can change depending on the circumstance. When the strategy is well received and individuals see benefits for not only the organization but for them, change can be welcomed and implemented rather quickly. It would be correct to say that HR mangers should change the focus of Human Resource Management function from a reactive function to a proactive function. The greatest challenge of operationalizing strategy across various business functions are convincing employees that change is needed.Change for most isnt an easy task. The challenge is convincing people to change when they feel that there is no change needed. Basically its about the art of persuasion. So appealing to the heart is the best way to implement change (Fujimoto, 2007). The most challenging part of implementing and integrated human resource management strategy is the human aspect. How workers will accept their role, how they will evolve, how to keep the organization balanced with a healthy work environment and productivity. People are resistant to change and strong leaders with a good vision and communication skills are needed to lead effectively. The greatest challenge of operationalizing and an integrated HRM strategy across business functions is execution. Managers can guide their teams towards the strategic plan, but most of the time provides little leadership or feedback on how to get there (Mathews, 2016). Thus, without effective leadership, the strategic plan will fail (Daft, 2013). Ways in which to effectively operationalize strategy across business functions can be achieved in the following ways: Planning- Identify key areas of the business that need to be tackled. Strategic initiatives should focus on products/services for profitability and sustaining growth (Mathews, 2016). Transform strategy into tactical- Effective business plans target key areas that will steer the organization in the direction it wants to go and contains the tactical steps on how to achieve the goal. Unfortunately, this is where things can get muddled and companies fail to produce (Mathews, 2016). A successful business plan will identify which strategies will result in profitability, identify who will be responsible, which departments will execute on the plan and how to get there (Mathews, 2016). Team Approach-Successful strategic plans are well communicated throughout cross-functional teams. Although most strategic planning is done at a senior level, heads of different departments are accountable for communicating the plan throughout their teams and establishing steps on how to achieve the goals. Establish benchmarks-Establishing benchmarks and timetables assists with ensuring the strategic plan is carried out and communicating often is key to success (Mathews, 2016). Benchmarks helps to transform the goal into small steps that are achievable in everyday tasks. Monitoring progress-Strategic plans can be overwhelming at best when looked at in its entirety. By breaking down the strategic plan into manageable steps, can help people stay focused and on target. The tactical execution should be communicated often, celebrating milestones when benchmarks are met along the way to help keep people motivated and working towards the strategic goal. Although challenging, the leader still has a responsibility to honor stakeholders concerns even though emotions are tied to feeling of change. They just have to figure out the most strategic way to implement changes that will be the most effective way, otherwise they will fail. They must understand that in order to grow, you must respond to the needs of your employees, otherwise they are less likely to be as productive. Also, there will some resistance. Whenever there is change, there are people who are going to be resistant. Most people understand that in order to improve, there must be change, however there are always a small group of people that are resistant to change because they dont do well with a changing system (Corbridge, 2010).The most important thing is to have structure, and include youre employees in so that they will feel part of the process. Once you have the majority of employees accepting changes in the system, then others will likely follow. It would be correct to sa y that the organizational leaders should be able to implement the HRM strategies in an effective manner. According to Daft (2016) there is no value in the most creative HRM strategy if it cannot be translated into action. Implementing IHRM strategy is the most important, but also the most difficult part of strategy. The greatest challenge is related to the inability of people to adopt new behaviors. Dekhane (2014) stated that several studies have confirmed that poor strategy implementation is the number one reason strategies are not successful and thatless than10% of all business strategies are effectively implemented. This emphasizes the point that the poor output of the strategy may well be a result of the poor implementation, and not necessarily the strategy itself. There are many factors that make operationalizing IHRM strategy difficult. First and foremost, change involves people, and many different kinds of people with different values, goals and fears. Attempting to create anything new will always be difficult because someone will be negatively affected by the change, or will per ceive a negative threat. Resistance will look different depending on the situation, what change is being affected and who will be affected. Leaders must be able to assess the situation and determine how to best move forward (Scott, 2012). Having a variety of plans will assist the leader in successfully implementing products or larger scale cultural changes. Understanding the reason or the resistance will help determine which implementation plan would be most useful.Successful change and innovation also requires a great deal of teamwork and creativity. These are two qualities that leaders should look for in new hires but something that is also fostered at the work place. To create or implement new products, training or strategies, the teams must work collaboratively and identifying roles and encouraging cross participation can foster this. The roles are inventor, champion, critic and sponsor. Daft (2013) explains that products that are successful almost always had champion, someone w ho believed whole-heartedly in the products and was willing to fight for it. It is important to look at all sides though to ensure a product isnt being allocated too many resources and will be flop, so having a critic is crucial as well. The leader can do a variety of things to lessen the resistance but the challenge will always be there. For example, these five tactics can be utilized to lessen the resistance of employees by educating/training, brining them in a participatory nature, negotiating, using cohesion (only in emergency situations) and obtaining top management support (Daft, 2013). Communication is essential and even though all the details may not be available from the get go, there remains the ability to enlighten people as to the reasoning behind why there are plans in the works and how those plans will impact not only the organization, but also how they will impact the individuals involved (Holland, 2006). By including members from numerous departments during the early stages, will be invaluable in getting their input on issues. By developing surveys, focus groups, town hall meetings, all members of an organization can feel involved and meaningful in the process. These shows that they are valued members, and that their thoughts and contributions matter. References Deliotte (2009)Creating value through HR: HR StrategySweden. Two Sides Of The Brain Essays - Cerebrum, Corpus Callosum
Two Sides of The Brain Your brain has two sides. And each has a distinctly different way of looking at the world. Do you realize that in order for you to read this article, the two sides of your brain must do completely different things? The more we integrate those two sides, the more integrated we become as people. Integration not only increases our ability to solve problems more creatively, but to control physical maladies such as epilepsy and migranes, replace certain damaged brain functions and even learn to "thin" into the future. Even more startling is evidence coming to light that we have become a left-brain culture. Your brain's right and left side have distinctly different ways of looking at the world. Your two hemispheres are as different from each other as, oh, Micheal Wilson and Shirley Maclean. The left brain controls the right side of the body (this is reversed in about half of the 15 percent of the population that is left-handed) and, in essence, is logical analytical, judgemental and verbal. It's interested in the bottom line, in being efficent. The right brain controls the left side of the body and leans more to the creative, the intuitive. It is concerned more with the visual and emotional side of life. Most people, if they thought about it, would identify more with their left brain. In fact, many of us think we are our left brains. All of that non-stop verbalization that goes on in our heads is the dominant left brain talking to itself. Our culture- particularly our school system with its emphasis on the three Rs (decidedly left-brain territory) - effectively represses the intuitive and artistic right brain. If you don't believe it, see how far you get at the office with the right brain activity of daydreaming. As you read, your left-side is sensibly making connections and analysing the meaning of the words, the syntax and other complex relation- ships while putting it into a "language" you can understand. Meanwhile, the right side is providing emotional and even humerous cues, decoding visual information and maintaining an integrated story structure. While all of this is going on, the two sides are constantly communicating with each other across a connecting fibre tract called the corpus callosum. There is a certain amount of overlap but essentially the two hemispheres of the brain are like two different personalities that working alone would be somewhat lacking and overspecialized, but when functioning together bring different strengths and areas of expertise to make an integrated whole. "The primitive cave person probably lived solely in the right brain," says Eli Bay, president of Relaxation Response Inc., a Toronto organization that teaches people how to relax. "As we gained more control over our environment we became more left-brain oriented until it became dominant." To prove this, Bay suggests: "Try going to your boss and saying "I've got a great hunch." Chances are your boss will say, "Fine, get me the logic to back it up." The most creative decision making and problem solving come about when both sides bring their various skills to the table: the left brain analysing issues, problems and barriers; the right brain generating fresh approaches; and the left brain translating the into plans of action. "In a time of vast change like the present, the intuitive side of the brain operates so fast it can see what's coming," says Dr. Howard Eisenberg, a medical doctor with a degree in psychology who has studied hemispheric relationships. "The left brain is too slow, but the right can see around corners." Dr. Eisenberg thinks that the preoccupation with the plodding left brain is one reason for the analysis paralysis he sees affecting world leaders. "Good leaders don't lead by reading polls," he says. "They have vision and operate to a certain extent by feel." There are ways of correcting out cultural overbalance. Playing video games, for example, automatically flips you over to the right brain Bay says. "Any artistic endavour, like music or sculpture, will also do it." In her best-selling book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain (J.P. Shakespeares Hamlet Research Paper Example
Shakespeares Hamlet Research Paper Example Shakespeares Hamlet Paper Shakespeares Hamlet Paper Essay Topic: Hamlet Shakespeares hamlet is a complex play based on the royal family of Denmark. The king Hamlet dies and his wife Gertrude marries his brother Claudius Prince hamlet is not happy with the wedding and his thoughts are later confirmed when the ghost of his father tells him that he was murdered by Claudius. Hamlet then starts to take revenge which eventually leaves everyone dead. In this essay I will be discussing act 1 scenes 4 and 5 in which the ghost appears, I will be looking at the events within the play that could be held responsible for the onset of hamlets madness or indeed his death. I will consider both sides of the argument and acknowledge wether the appearance of the ghost was the catalyst of hamlets eventual demise. Act 1 scenes 4 starts of with horatio Marcellus and hamlet waiting impatiently for the ghost which Marcellus and horatio have seen it then draws near the season wherein the spirit held his wont to walk this also prove that the ghost is not just hamlets mind in a state of madness as the men witness the ghost before even notifying Hamlet. Horatio states Before my God, I might not this believe without the sensible and true avouch Of mine own eyes. Considering stagecraft I would reckon that horatio hamlet and Marcellus would be standing fairly close together whilst having the conversation. The atmosphere would be rather quiet and ominous and the tension would dramatically increase when the ghost enters. Horatio and Marcellus then try to stop hamlet from following the ghost do not my lord however hamlet is determined and explains to them that following the ghost will probably be the only way that he can know his fate and follows the ghost. Hamlets first speech with the ghost show the doubts that exist in his mind about the nature of the ghosts apparition he says Whither wilt thou lead me? Speak Ill go no further. This shows doubt because hamlet was willing to follow the ghost to seek some guidance and answers but hes now feeling unsure that this ghost or apparition may just be an evil spirit and therefore tells the ghost to stop as he will follow no more. Hamlet then beckons the ghost to reveal what discord robbed his fathers peace, the ghost then tells the story of how Claudius his brother poured poison into his ears The ghost urges Hamlet to Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (Act1 Scene 5 Line25) and informs him that The serpent that did sting thy fathers life now wears his crown (Act1 Scene5 Line 38). Considering the views of the audience at this point would be the essential difference between Catholicism and Protestantism the Catholics believe in Purgatory and Protestants do not. The Protestant line is that if you lead a good life and have great faith in Christs ultimate sacrifice, a place in heaven is assured. Catholics though believe that immediately after death there is a period of purification, in Purgatory, before the deceased enters heaven. The opposing views are represented in the play by the Ghost, who comes from Purgatory and must have come back to make right the story of how he died in other words the ghost had unfinished business before he could go to heaven. The Ghost then taunts Hamlet, telling him that it is part of every mans honour to avenge his death. Hamlet then becomes a part of Denmarks foulness and wretchedness when he agrees to avenge his fathers death. This is the beginning of a vicious cycle of hatred, death and revenge that destroys many lives. The ghost then departs leaving hamlet trapped in a dilemma of moral conflict and duty towards the promise he makes to his fathers ghost. Horatio and Marcellus come rushing in on the line my lord my lord! The exclamation mark used at the end of the lines by Shakespeare shows great urgency. The ghost then cries out from under the stage, urging them to swear their secrecy. Obeying the spirits demands, Horatio and Marcellus pledge upon the cross of Hamlets sword that they will never speak a word of what they have seen and heard. Hamlet then tells them that he will pretend to be mad these are but wild and whirling words however Hamlets choice to put on an antic disposition leads to his downfall; it is a tragic error in judgement which destroys his relationship with Ophelia and Gertrude. Is the appearance of the ghost the catalyst for hamlets eventual demise? Hamlet is certainly unhappy about the circumstances from before but his encounter with the ghost adds to his anguish trauma and despair, hamlets character undergoes a serious change after this meeting with his fathers ghost. However the question arises wether this is the only cause of hamlets madness which infact lead to his death. As we already know hamlets grief over the loss of his father was showing signs of consuming him. Some would argue that it was hamlets spontaneous killing of Polonius or maybe his choice of pretending to be mad actually turned him mad I feel that Hamlet has a tragic flaw in his personality and behaviour. His flaw is that he is overly concerned with death and tragedy. This flaw or weakness in Hamlet leads him into a world of chaotic surroundings and madness. Hamlets flaw and his mad personality led to the death of several people, including his mother and the King of Denmark Hamlet is disheartened he ponders thoughts of suicide by his own soliloquy. To be, or not to be; that is the question Hamlets misery, or state of depression, was more easily perceived by an Elizabethan audience than would be by a modern one. Shakespeares use of language generated the drama and tension in hamlet, the lack of special effects which were not available in Shakespeare times were accomplished by his use of language and the effect of writing throughout the play in form of poetry was very efficient. The meanings ideas and hamlets soliloquies were all used by Shakespeare to show hamlets isolation and despair. Shakespeares literary techniques and devices had a great impact on the audience; however compared to now the audience would expect more such as extraordinary devices and distinctive elements. His use of dramatic and emotional vocabulary in Hamlet virtually all the way through arouses the audiences attention and creates an exciting atmosphere. The phrase to be or not to be demonstrates Shakespeares intentions of building up an anxious and tense mood for the audience as they feel highly sympathetic towards the character. Shakespeare later uses the character of Laertes. Who is clearly a remorseless and bitter man in search for revenge for his late fathers death to build up the idea of hamlet as a victim once more.

A Review Of The Battle Of Lz Albany History Essay
A Review Of The Battle Of Lz Albany History Essay The battle in review is LZ Albany. This battle took place during the Vietnam War under Operation Pleiku. LZ Albany was an ambush on American troops en route to landing zone Albany by NVA regulars. The battle took place on the afternoon of November 17, 1965. The fight involved the US Army 2nd battalion of the 7th Cavalry (2/7) and the NVA 8th battalion of the 66th Regiment. Although the end result of the battle is considered an American victory, the losses suffered were horrendous. It is safe to say this was a pyrrhic victory for the US, only due to the fact that they held the ground at Albany at the end of the battle. This did alter the amount of troops the NVA could attack LZ Columbus with as a side effect. The battle itself would teach many lessons to the US army in regards to the importance of security and the role support by fire played in this theatre of combat. The Vietnam War was a civil war in which the United States was actively involved in. The Northern faction of Vietnam adopted Communism, and thus gained Russia and China as allies. Vietnam until this point was a French territory which was in the process of being liberated by the North Vietnamese. They had defeated France and driven them from parts of the country. France and South Vietnam sought aid from the United States. In reply the United States rendered aid and advisors to South Vietnam. This was due to US foreign policy at the time and staunch opposition to Communism by the US government. If Vietnam fell to Communism it also posed a great economic threat to US interests in South Asia as well. By 1965 the US Armed Forces no longer played the role of advisors for the South Vietnamese in the Vietnam conflict. We were at the point of actively engaging the North Vietnamese in combat. (Stewart 386-320) Under Operation Pleiku, US Army divisions were first employed against the North Vietnamese. This is exactly what the North Vietnamese commander Gen. Nguyen Chi Tranh had desired. His main strategy enc ompassed liberating a vast majority of South Vietnam from southern control and inflicting mass casualties on US forces. The idea was that the American public would not support a war in which multitudes of American soldiers lost their lives. His intent was to shatter the American publicââ¬â¢s support and thus drive another foreign imposer out of the country. This plan was titled the Dong Xuan Campaign. (Coleman.51) American forces had already been occupying the provincial capital of Pleiku. Frequent attacks and skirmishes by the NVA gave the impression that they were probing for the best possible place to attack to retake the city. This indicated to US commanders that there was a sizable force of enemy soldiers in the Northern plateaus that needed to be dealt with. A series of landing zones were reconnoitered for probable attack positions. The Armyââ¬â¢s objective was simple: to destroy the enemy threat in the area and their will to fight. After securing LZ X-ray, it was the jo b of the 2/7 Cavalry to sweep the gap between LZ X-ray and LZ Columbus, which held US artillery. Their mission was also very simple: to sweep the area between LZ Columbus and LZ Albany, and engage whatever enemy they found.
